Chiswell

Disciplines:
Typography
Designed by Jose Carratala and Genevieve Cugnart, and published by Blazetype, Chiswell is a contemporary reinterpretation of H. W. Caslon & Co.’s Dutch Old Face, a charmingly inky Garalde typeface with long ascenders and short descenders that dates back to at least 1915. This font retains the warmth and personality of its original source while enhancing its versatility with a broader range of weights and styles. Its variable x-height offers exceptional flexibility: opt for a short x-height to evoke a vintage feel, a medium x-height for body text, or a tall x-height for striking titles and headlines. Much like an eccentric grandfather’s favourite jumper, Chiswell exudes warmth and a pleasing texture. It is perfect for texts that require a touch of nostalgia without any stuffiness. Chiswell’s adaptability and classical proportions make it ideal for editorial design and longer text settings. Its distinctive personality also lends itself well to branding and display applications, making it a versatile choice for various creative projects.
